Manchester Anti-Precarity Network
We are a group of fixed-term staff at the University of Manchester, fighting for our jobs in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The University of Manchester’s core goal, ‘Our people, our values’, states that everything the University does has its colleagues at its heart, supported by the institution’s dedication to social responsibility. However, if the University does not change its FTC policy and extend contracts to support its vulnerable staff at this time, it will not be acting in the best interests of its staff, it will not be ‘supporting pathways to wellbeing’, and it will not be acting with integrity, much less fulfilling its goal of social responsibility. Getting rid of large numbers of Manchester’s most skilled and dedicated teaching staff will also have a severe negative impact on the student experience, as thousands of students and their parents and allies have already warned.
